How Do They Make That Onion Bloom?

Have you ever looked at the Bloomin” Onion appetizer at the Outback Steakhouse and marveled at how they could have possibly made that so perfectly? Is it even an onion?

Yes, it”s really an onion. And when the appetizer was first introduced, it was cut by hand with very precise knife cuts, according to Outback Co-Founder and Head Chef Tim Gannon. Then Gannon met Gloria. Gloria is a machine that was invented just for the Outback to make cutting the enormous onions a snap. Pictured above, it glides down the onion, leaving perfect cuts.
